Our first Art Toy – How to start
At the beginning, we simply wanted to create a character. One day, we happened to see a fast-food restaurant sign, and we combined that spark with a well-known Hong Kong urban legend. That was how Pigtails Wendy was born. We sketched, discussed the details, finalized the 2D design and then we had to find someone to build the 3D model for us.

We did want to challenge ourselves and try making the 3D model on our own. It was fun, but also full of difficulties. In the end, we hired a professional to do it, faster and far more polished than what we could manage at the time. Because we wanted Wendy’s arms to be movable, we made further adjustments. Thankfully, when we received the final 3D model, the result looked great.

After that, we handed everything over to the factory for production.

We also made a spray mask/mould for painting, so we could create other colour versions later on.

We’ve since published two story zines about Pigtails Wendy as well. We hope every Doppel product carries its own story—something that lives beyond the object itself. So… what other strange happenings will appear in the Doppel world next?
